Cindy Fuller is a fourth generation jeweler. In 1875 Cindy's
great-grandfather, Richard
Fuller, opened the first Fuller's Jewelry in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Grandfather
Sylvester Fuller opened his store in 1915 at Mound City, Missouri. Father Louis
Fuller had his first store in Collinsville, Illinois. After the bombing of
Pearl Harbor, he auctioned his store and joined the Navy. Returning stateside
after the war, Louis opened Fuller's Jewelry in Poplar Bluff, Missouri in
1946.
Cindy Fuller began working in her parent's store
at the age of 10. When she left home to attend college, she worked in jewelry
stores in Springfield, Missouri, as she continued her education. She received
her BS in marketing/management from SMSU and began an apprenticeship under her
father for diamond settings and gold work. In 1977 she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to work at Cizon's
Jewelry. Returning to Poplar Bluff, Cindy bought the store from her parents,
Louis and Mary, in 1981. In 1984, Cindy moved to her larger Poplar Bluff Square location. Cindy downsized in 2008 to her present smaller location in the Holloway building, just past the Walmart stoplight at 603 S. Westwood Blvd., next to the Chevy store.
Cindy
Fuller earned her Gemologist Diploma in 1993 by successfully identifying 20 gemstones in four hours with no
mistakes. She earned her Graduate
Gemologist Diploma from Gemological Institute of America in 1994, after
successfully completing course work in diamonds, diamond grading, colored stones and gem identification, plus three one-week grading laboratories. She
was awarded scholarships from Jewelers of America for each of the
courses. Cindy Fuller is the only Graduate Gemologist in a 90-mile area. Other certificates held
by Ms. Fuller include Certified Store Manager, issued by Jewelers of
America, and the GIA certificates for Identifying Challenging Synthetics and
Detecting Fracture Filled and Synthetic Diamonds.
Active
in the Missouri Jewelers and Watchmakers Association, Cindy has served 10 years
on the Board of Directors of the Association. Fuller's Jewelry is also a member
of the Retail Jewelers Organization, a volume-buying group of the jewelry
industry.
Cindy is active in the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and has been a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church.
